World Flight Preparing Planes in Calcutta

Daily Report

by Lt. L. P. Arnold, "Chicago", Mechanic

The whole day was spent in looking over facilities & making arrangements to change from floats to wheels. Some of the gang went shopping & most of us had a tailor at work making uniforms. All my clothes I sent to the laundry so I stayed at the hotel fixing up my accounts, etc.

About 5 o'clock we went to the Maidon where our supplies were & started to assemble the landing gears. We worked there until dark & then loaded everything into a truck & went to a garage where we worked until 12:30.

Daily Report

by Lt. L. H. Smith, Commanding

Calcutta was the point where a change was to be made back to landing gear. Advance arrangements for this work were unsatisfactory due to the failure of the advance officer to receive specifications on the Douglas World Cruisers. The entire day was required to make plans for this work and with the assistance of the Harbor Master, excellent facilities were obtained which will covered in the Engineering Report.

Engineering Report

by Lt. E. H. Nelson, "New Orleans" Pilot

All three planes landed in river at this station and moored to large buoys. Arrangements made to obtain suitable crane to lift planes out of water on to a dock. The arrangements made for us at this station by the Advance Officer were unsatisfactory, as he did not have the proper information and did not know what was necessary to carry on the work of changing from pontoons to landing gears.
