Daily Flight Information:

The World Flyers are in Nazan, Atka awaiting the arrival of the Coast Guard cutter Haida from Dutch Harbor which is necessary to act a radio relay station with the cutter Eider in Attu, the next scheduled stop.

"Seattle" Search Update 

Overland search teams along with US Navy, Coast Guard and commercial ships continue the search for the "Seattle" with pilot, Major F. L. Martin, and mechanic, Staff Sergeant A. L. Harvey, missing since midday 30 April.

Another "usual day" -- meaning much wind, rain, and snow. Conditions were so bad that it was not being an absolute necessity, no work was done on the planes. Late in the afternoon they were boarded, the pontoons checked, etc., but nothing more outside of that.

We really passed a more comfortable night than anticipated -- that is, we did sleep some of the time, perhaps because we were tired.

The day we spent prowling around the store & looking over the stock, which isn't very large, and sitting around the stove. Cooking, eating, then cleaning up occupied a large part of the day, and we really fared very well.

The native Chief had a magneto he wanted fixed so a deal was made whereby the magneto would be repaired in return for two chickens which we boiled up, and augmented by canned goods from the store had a good dinner.

The village here has a population of one white man and 79 natives, but their huts & yards are surprisingly neat. They have a church here & the bells have been ringing most of the day -- religion seems to be a very important part of their lives.
