World Flight Arrives in San Francisco

Daily Report

by Lt. L. P. Arnold, "Chicago", Mechanic

*We left Los Angeles at 10:00 and flew over the mountains and through the valleys passing oil wells, deserts & gardens of all kinds along the way. Lt. Wade flying "Boston II" was forced down south of San Francisco and after determining he was OK, we flew on to Crissy Field where a big crowd was awaiting our arrival. The crowd here, in contrast to the last one, was well behaved. There wasn't an elaborate reception or parade planned at the field much to the relief of all. We had lunch at the field then went to the St. Francis hotel for the evening.

Daily Report

by Lt. L. H. Smith, Commanding

This morning at 9:55, the flight took off for San Francisco, taking the valley route, then crossing over the mountains to Hollister, up the San Jose Valley to South San Francisco where the "Boston II" had a forced landing caused by ignition failure. The "Chicago" and "New Orleans" after determining the trouble, continued on to San Francisco, landing at Crissy Field at 3:10 and was followed a few minutes later by the "Boston II". San Francisco had a very large reception for the flight. Major Delos C. Emmons, Commanding Officer of Crissy Field, had excellent preparations made and steps were immediately taken to change the motor on the "Boston II".
