Refueled, repaired, and at 12:00 took off for Boston. Passed through a rain squall soon after leaving but then had good weather until after passing St. Johns. Here we met fog which grew thicker & thicker as we went on until just before reaching Portland [Maine] we were just above the water, no visibility at all, and after having many escapes missing islands, we turned back and inland. Attempted to go over fog but finally abandoned that and finally made a landing at Mere Point, Maine -- a summer colony. People there very nice, did everything possible for us & made us very comfortable.
About 9:00 the reporters & photographers started drifting in & for awhile we were quite busy accommodating them & chasing to the store to answer the telephone.
Saw a strange sight today -- a flock of ducks struggling to escape us, two of them collided & locked wings; tumbling some few feet before getting righted again.

The flight was held at Pictou one day because of very unsatisfactory weather conditions but at 11:15, after some difficulties with the "Boston II", the flight headed for the City of Boston, flying west along the coast of Nova Scotia until it reached the shortest land crossing to the Bay of Fundy, then along the western shore; after passing St. John, the flight began to encounter fog which at times became very dense. The planes kept pushing on, hoping that it would pass the fog belt. While near Portland, it was decided best to land; Mere Point was chosen for this purpose as temporary mooring places could be seen from the air and the harbor was fairly well protected. Landing was effected at 5:20.
